Oil Painting

A Phoenix native, Butler received her BFA in figurative painting from Arizona State University. After teaching for a number of years she went on to pursue art full time and began her focus on large scale florals. It was a natural development, as she keeps her own garden, and loves the ability to create a still life solely from the earth.

She says about her work "Plant life lends itself to visual patterns and seductive rhythms. My interest is in the repetition and variation of shape and color as one species relates to another collectively. I aim to recreate the experience of seeing life growing wildly up together in nature—a visual sensation of awe-struckness sparking the imagination and intuition. My intent is to have the viewer feel both grounded in visual beauty and overcome by the abundance and wildness of nature; a moment to pause in an interaction with Mother Earth."

She is currently represented by Gallery Piquel in New Hope, Pennsylvania and Gallery Mar in Carmel, California, and shows at The Celebration of Fine Art in Scottsdale, Arizona from January through March.
